PUBLISHING ADVICE:

There are many ways to publish a book, but if you have decided to self-publish, you are becoming your own publisher. In other words you are starting a business. There are certain steps you should take.

Of course, one of the first steps is to finish your manuscript and gather photos or illustrations that will be used.  You can get a minimum of 10 ISBN numbers. (These can be used to publish 10 books). Your book will need it's own unique number. You can go to the Bowker website to find out how to obtain these numbers. Before doing so, think of a name for your publishing company. Try to think of a unique name that will be easy for people to spell and remember. To avoid confusion, check to see if any other companies have used this name.

Once you have named your publishing company and applied for you ISBN numbers, you will want to think about the details and cost of producing your book. As with any type of business, a self-published author needs a well thought out business plan. A publisher must plan everything from book layout to financial matters. Return to my site for more details on how to write a business plan.

Advice for authors who have already published:

In order to increase sales of your books, be sure to write effective News Releases. (See News Release page) Try to include a photo of the cover image. Distribute the news release to local News Media. Check back with contact person.
